Studies on the leukopenic active substance on rabbit isolated from Polygonatum falcatum

Abstract
|
|
|
Leukopenia of the rabbit was observed after administration of the biological active substance isolated from Polygonatum falcatum A. Gray. The active substance might be identified to be polymer of methyl fructose. The hydrolyzed substance with 2% hydrochloric acid at 20℃ has also leukopenic activity on the rabbit as well as `initial unhydrolyzed polymer state substance. Strong leukopenia on the rabbit was observed by injecting 5mg of the substance per kg of body weight intravenously, but effect of the substance on erythrocyte of the rabbit was not observed. Leukopenia of the rabbit was also appeared by the hypo dermic or intramuscular injection of the substance as well as intravenous injection. When the substance was administraed tintravenously to the rabbit at intervals of about 24 hours, same intensity of leukopenia was found at each injection.
An acute toxicity of the substance on the mouse was not observed by single administration of one gram per kilogram of body weight.
